Refined version: Micro Refined Wood Light Setup
Important: I just realized that there’s a very tiny chance that the added plank on the back right burns instantly and floods the portal. To solve that you can place a block above it before building the portal and remove it after. I’m not sure if this makes it not worth it entirely.

(16.5286 ± 0.1173)s 1 deep (different results from previous posts because I found out that the demos actually don’t place all the lava that affects the wood light, there is barely any time difference though)
List of micro improvents:
Building Portal 1 Block Forward
pros:
- 2 less lava placements
- 2 less stone mined(4 for 2 deep)
- earlier back lava placement for better early light odds
- arguably less water spills
- ~1 tick saved on average
- higher chance of 2 deep lava
cons:
- 4 more early block placements, slowing down portal build
Extra Wood Placed Back Right
- pros: 3 ticks saved on average
- cons: -1 wood plank
Extra Block Mined Back Left
- pros: 8 ticks saved on average
- cons: 1 block of your choice mined half overlapped
Extra 2 Lava Below Front Wood (For 1 deep)
pros: 1.4s saved on average after setup completed
cons:
- very slightly decreased chance of lighting when the wood was mined
- -1 wood occasionally
