Request to implement the “groups” feature, mainly so that people can subscribe to announcements and notifications. A member can join a group, for example events, and thus be notified of any new event or when an event is live (a moderator or a higher trust level can ping @events) -kind of like discord announcements, but more granular, and with the benefit of being opt-in, and having email notifications.
I like this idea in general, but the specific example of events is not a great use case imo since there are a lot of different kinds of events. I would be happy to create a group for certain kinds of announcements, like for SRC leaderboard updates or Ranked updates, but I would want SRC or Ranked staff to be the one to ping those groups, not frontcage site staff.
