who is this guy and why is he here like. fries in the bag bro
Hi! In case you don’t know me, I’m ortho. I’ve been around the block a bit, having accrued experience in all the versions from 1.8 through 1.16.
Earlier this year, I, along with a handful other community members, ran a census of the MCSR community (i.e. those we were able to reach with our limited influence). It was available in 18 languages, survived a DDoS attack and received 1,250 responses over a 30-day period.
After the Census ended, I started writing and uploading a series of faux-publications, including a Technical Report and five planned Thematic Reports (3 of which have been completed at the time of writing), which will contain consolidated Census data and supporting diagrams/tables associated therewith.
I have been using a simple Google site to house these publications, as well as those on peripheral Census matters, the MCSR Quiz series and any future studies we do. The link is enclosed below, alongside the links to the Technical Report and 3 Thematic Reports for easy navigation. Feel free to take a look! Each report will take about an hour to digest.

How you can use this thread:
- Give criticism/feedback/suggestions on the reports and Census (e.g. statistical methods, question wording, **typos and grammatical mistakes**, suggestions to improve publicity and legitimacy).
- Discuss Census or stats-related matters, within or beyond the MCSR scene. If you come across a particularly-interesting study or one that employs unique/especially-sound statistical methods, feel free to reply and/or ping!
- Submit data requests, data disclosures or request special studies. Got a hypothesis about the state of the community that needs verifying? Wanna verify the presence of a tendency within (top) runners? Doing a school project that needs a bank of raw data? Hit us up.
What I will do (probably):
- Regularly check and answer questions/comments.
- Update with new information (new reports, media events and projects). You might want to look out for an LFI media segment and a Christmas Quiz in the next couple months…
- Anything I (and the participants of this thread) see fit.
ESSAY WARNING
The main motivation for the Census stemmed from the 3 quizzes I had done in March, May and June, which proved that forms-based content was a market gap that would generate a lot of engagement and attention for a short period of time. Having had the census idea pop up in conversation with friends, I figured the time was ripe for a community-wide census, especially in light of the MCSR boom with Season 7 Ranked Playoffs (and Tubbo’s then-newly-acquired brain worm), and that detailed, data-backed and well-presented insights on the community and its constituents would greatly benefit content creation, moderation of interaction styles and general strategic orientation, among other things, going forward.
I am happy to say that the Census, thus far, has generated some 120,000 data points of information, which we have been cleaning for about 2 months now. More fruitfully, it has helped my co-organisers (co-authors? this sounds a bit fancier) get jobs, created a community of practice (in the form of a “Census Updates” server, where we discuss statistical insights and promote our own stats/MCSR projects) with over 300 members, as well as allowed me to read up on intergovernmental and national documentation regarding large-scale statistical projects. As professional as it may seem, all this work I’m doing is just entry level and accessible with Google Suite, and I am looking forward to implementing more advanced/sophisticated techniques to optimise the 2026 Census, as well as work with more like-minded people with a knack for collecting, crunching and disseminating data efficiently, effectively and ethically.
